Welcome! This is your blog! I hope you will use this as a way to facilitate discussion (and earn points!) and enhance our class.
First assignment: Nothing too deep, just something to get you into the idea of blogging: Of the summer reading novels, which one was your favorite and why??
Happy Blogging!
MP
Farewell to Arms was my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI don't really know why. I just liked it better than the others.
Ethan Frome was my favorite. Even though it was kind of depressing, I found it easy to follow and enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteA Farewell to Arms was my favorite too Molly! Even though it was hard to follow some of the dialoge, I liked to story line better than the others.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Emily!!
ReplyDeleteEathan Frome was really short!
I totally loved A Brave New World! I thought it was hilarious how the author kept talking about sex, and that seemed to be what kept the society running haha!
ReplyDeleteIt kept me incredibly amused :]
I liked Brave New World as well. I thought it was an incredible commentary on the current state of our society.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Cassie and Emily... it was nice that Ethan Frome was so short.
I thought Brave New World was the best too. It kept me interested and made you think about the current condition of our society.
ReplyDeleteI do not know how anyone enjoyed brave new world.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Brave New World the most because of its similarity to our modern day society.
ReplyDeleteThe characters in A Farewell to Arms lacked a certain depth that I like in fiction, they seemed so caught up in the masculinity of war that they lost their individualism.
ReplyDeleteEthan Frome was my favorite, it was short, but still pretty good
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of the summer reading novels was A Farewell to Arms because the plot was interesting and kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Cassie. It was hard for me to enjoy Brave New World.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer reading book was definitely Brave New World. It was interesting and made me think about today's society and what will happen to our future world.
ReplyDeleteI liked A Farewell to Arms but I didn't like it's dialogue. It was just too simple and lacked a sense of emotion in my opinion.
ReplyDeletePersonally, my favorite is BNW. I also really like Ethan Frome, so I guess I am in the majority for this class! :-) I keep EF on the list because it IS short!!! A novel doesn't have to be lengthy to be important. (And you guys need the "easier" reading after finishing ATOTC!) I hope everyone else remembers to post ...
ReplyDeleteI liked brave new world because I didn't feel like falling asleep when I read it. It was interesting, some of the terms it used was a little confusing, but it really reflected today's society.
ReplyDeleteOh and I HATED farewell. Hemingway is very sexist, confusing, and boring at the same time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Brave New World!:) Even though it was a little weird at times. A Tale of Two Cities was the worst book ever though. I barelymade the whole way through it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Emily and Cassie. Sorry MP.
ReplyDeleteBrave New World was the best book out of all of the summer assignments, the whole dystopia theme is interesting to read. Ethan Frome was stupid, like trying to kill yourself by sledding into a tree...oh wait, that's what happened.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked A Tale of Two Cities. Even though it was long it had a good story line. It also used a lot of symbolism
ReplyDeleteI agree with myla. I liked Brave New World because it connects the most with today's time. It also shows you a dystopian future society.
ReplyDeleteA Tale of Two Cities wasn't that bad, I just really didn't understand it until the very end.
ReplyDeleteTale of Two Cities I thought was terrible. It took me forever to read and I didnt like that we had to do a journal with it. It made it take even longer to read.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most saying Brave New world was interesting to compare it to our society today. It just wasn't really the style of reading I prefer.
I really didn't understand Tale of Two Cities until halfway through the book, it was just too long. I prefered Ethan Frome.
ReplyDeleteI loved Tale of Two Cities. I thought it used the best literary techniques, and the plot kept you the most entertained.
ReplyDeleteI couldnt begin to understand A Tale of Two Cities and just began to give up on it half way through. A Brave New World was my favorite read just because it was interestig to take a look at a "Utopian" society
ReplyDeleteI agree with DJ. Ethan Frome was short, yes, and I appreciate that, but come on, sledding into a tree to commit suicide?? And failing.
ReplyDeleteI didnt understand Tale of two Cites it was too long to be interesting. I my favorite had to be ethan frome short and the suicide atempt was a great ending.
ReplyDeleteUmmm I need to have two posts...I agree with Scott about Brave New World
ReplyDeleteI agree with dixon. a tale of two cities was just too long to be interesting. ethan from was better because it was so short
ReplyDeleteI am following this post fashionably late...
ReplyDeleteI thought Tale of Two Cities was by far my favorite book of the summer readings. It seemed like the only book that actually had some substance to it. I love the feeling that I have conquered some difficult classic and that I have grown from it. Books that don't prove much of a challenge such as Brave New World and Ethan Frome will probably be flushed out of my brain in a couple of weeks. Remember, pain is the best teacher...
